Winchester Downtown Revitalization Committee Wins National BIA Award
THUNDER BAY- April 12, 2012 – The Winchester Downtown Revitalization Committee won the National Business Improvement Association’s ‘Safe & Healthy Environment’ Achievement Award for the Sweet Corner Park Project. The Ontario Business Improvement Area Association (OBIAA) and the Toronto Association of BIAs (TABIA) presented the National BIA Achievement Award to Township of North Dundas Mayor Eric Duncan on Monday night at the Annual Awards Gala held during the BIA National conference in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
“It was a real honour to receive the award in Thunder Bay in front of dozens of BIA’s and Downtown groups from across the province,” said Mayor Duncan. “The revitalization of the main corner in the village has really improved the look of the downtown core. The Committee has worked really hard these past couple of years and I am so proud to be a part of the team.”
Recognizing the best that Business Improvement Area revitalization and downtown management has to offer, winners were chosen in categories that covered all aspects of business improvement areas and downtown development, including Special Events, Marketing & Communication, Business Recruitment, Retention & Expansion, Bricks and Mortar, and Safe and Healthy Environment.“The National BIA Achievement Awards celebrate and communicate the most successful and innovative efforts in Ontario BIA and Downtown Development,” said OBIAA President, John Kiru.
“The Awards Committee was extremely impressed with the quality of the submissions this year,” added OBIAA Awards Committee Co-Chairs, Janette MacDonald, Executive Director, Downtown London and Mark Garner, Executive Director of Downtown Kitchener. Submissions were judged on innovation, replication, representation and outcome.
“The winning projects truly exemplify the high standards of quality and professionalism deserving of recognition by OBIAA and TABIA,” said John Kiru, OBIAA President and TABIA Executive Director.
